Raksha
Bandha is a special day for every brother and sister. It is celebrated
on the full moon day in the Hindu calendar month of Sharavan, Raksha
Bandhan is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in India. It is a
day that symbolises the sacred relationship between a brother and
sister. Literally decipher, raksha means protection while bandhan means bond. Raksha Bandhan, therefore, signifies the bond of love out which comes a sagacity of security and protection.
On Raksha Bandhan, the sister ties a rakhi, encompassing sacred threads, on her brother’s wrist and performs an aarati. In
return, the brother gives her a gift or cash keeping inside of an
envelope. Like others, I do celebrate this important festival; set
rakhi on my wrist, give riches to my beautiful sister and receive lots
and lots of blessings from her. Even, there are few cousins of mine who
follows the same formal procedure and offer me rakhi’s. This ritual
signifies love between/among people. As every important event has got
its own history in the same way raksha bandhan has also got its own
history. Various stories have been passed on indicating the origin of
Raksha Bandhan. One of them draws its origin from the Mahabharata epic.
While the celebration typically celebrates the relationship between
brother and sister, it has a much deeper spiritual significance. When we
take one step on the spiritual path, the Lord takes ninety-nine steps,
as it were. This is the symbolism of Lord Krishna. Raksha bandhan also
tells us about the relationship between brother and sister that might
last forever.
Thus Raksha Bandhan, like all other Indian festivals, is a call to
the presume Self within. So, let us all pursue and celebrate this very
essential festival in a very beautiful and in a remarkable manner. I’m
really very grateful and thankful to god and my parents for offering me
such a beautiful and brilliant sister from whom I learn numerous things
from diverse field. Happy raksha bandhan to my dearest sister and to
every one!!!
